The diagnosis of cancer is a traumatic event in a person’s life. Trauma-Informed care is essential for this journey. Yoga Therapy offers tools for the individuals to remain centered so they can navigate surgeries, treatments and recovery. While medication and treatments are focused on the removal of cancer from the body, yoga therapy offers tools to nourish the mind, body and energy. Inspired by the work of Allison Jeffries and Lorenzo Cohen at the Anderson Cancer Center, I have developed a framework based on Patanjali’s eight limb path Ashtanga Yoga to be a trauma-informed tether for an individual traveling through the journey with befriending cancer.
