Research on the therapeutic application of yoga consistently reveals its value in mental health. Before Covid-19 mental health issues were amongst the most pervasive world-wide with depression as the leading cause of disability. As a result of Covid-19 the world is facing a second pandemic of soaring mental health issues.
Surveys in various countries find unprecedented levels of anxiety, addictive behaviour, depression, as well as many factors that will precipitate ill-mental health. In this talk, Heather Mason will briefly discuss the psychophysiological reasons yoga therapy is so effective in improving mental health, research regarding increased mental health issues across the globe, in what way yoga therapy may help to change the tide of mental health at a population level, and how yoga therapists can influence policy as new strategies are devised to tackle this international crisis.
